3 Reasons to Plan a Vacation on the Gulf Coast Vs. the East Coast

Posted on: 29 April 2019

You might have already decided that you want to book a hotel or vacation rental and take your family on a nice vacation on the beach. One decision that you might not have made yet, though, is which beach you are going to visit. You could be eyeballing some of the beaches on the East Coast, but before you book your rental, you might want to check out your options on the Gulf Coast. Some of the reasons why you and your family might want to head to the Gulf Coast are listed here.

1. The Water Is Warmer

Of course, if you are planning a beach vacation for the middle of the summer, you should not have to worry about it being too cold on any of the East Coast beaches. In general, though, the water in the Gulf of Mexico is warmer than in the Atlantic Ocean. If you want to be able to enjoy nice, warm water when you're swimming — particularly if you're planning on visiting in the spring or the late summer, when temperatures might be a bit cooler along the East Coast — then you might want to think about visiting the Gulf Coast instead.

2. The Water Is Gentler

Another good thing about visiting the Gulf Coast is the fact that the water is typically gentler, other than when there are strong Southernly winds. Although you might prefer stronger surges if you like surfing, many people prefer the gentler waters for swimming and relaxing. If this is what you're hoping for, then you might be happier visiting the Gulf Coast.

3. Many Consider the Beaches to Be Prettier

Of course, it all depends on personal preference when you're trying to decide which beaches are more aesthetically pleasing. Many people think that the Gulf Coast beaches are prettier, though. For one thing, the sand is lighter, so if you're looking to experience nice white sand, you'll probably find what you're looking for along the Gulf Coast. Additionally, the beaches typically are not as rocky, and many people love the look of the sunset over the Gulf Coast beaches.

You can't really go wrong with a beach vacation for you and your family, no matter what beach you pick. However, many people do prefer the Gulf Coast beaches. If you have never experienced them and want to plan a beach vacation that you and your family members will probably never forget, you might just want to look into your hotel and vacation rental options along the Gulf Coast instead of planning a trip to the East Coast.
